- Start wearing loose, cotton or wool shirts. Give your underarms a chance to breathe. If you give them a chance to breathe, they will produce less sweat. Silk and nylon are the worst choices of fabrics to wear when you’re experiencing hyperhidrosis.
- Wash under your arms at least three times a day. Make sure the area is well groomed. Even if you’re a guy, you should eliminate the hair under your arms. This is because the bacteria in sweat will stick to the hair, making the situation worse. The accumulation of bacteria will also cause body odor.
- Use anti-bacterial soaps when cleaning the underarm area. Sometimes chemicals in soaps and deodorants can cause bacteria, so use the non-scented brands. Also, rubbing the area with a cloth can irritate it, so gently wash your underarms with your hands.
- Avoid foods that stimulate sweating. These include sugar, spicy foods, caffeine, and the additive Monosodium glutamate (MSG). Instead of these, you should eat foods such as fruit, nuts, vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, and B vitamins. These are all known to reduce sweating.
- Make sure you drink tons of water every single day. Cutting down on caffeine and drinking a lot of water is one of the most effective ways to stop sweating naturally. Consuming plenty of water will help eliminate the bacteria that causes excessive sweating and body odor.
In the most severe cases, prescription medication is needed. If you follow these guidelines, you should be able to control underarm sweat. If you suspect that the primary cause is due to another condition or as a side effect for medication, let your doctor know your concerns.
