Learn How You Can Stop Excessive Armpit Sweating and Prevent Bad Odor!

If you sweat much more than what is considered to be normal then you are probably worried that there might be something wrong with you. While sweating is a normal bodily function, excessive armpit sweating may be a sign of a health problem.

Don’t worry, though – in most cases, there is nothing seriously wrong with the patient. Excessive perspiration could be caused by drinking too much caffeine or eating a lot of spicy food. The cause varies from one patient to the next. As long as you aren’t sick or in pain, your excessive armpit sweating probably isn’t serious.

Still, it won’t hurt to talk to a doctor just to be on the safe side. If you have already been diagnosed for a medical condition such as hyperthyroidism or diabetes, that condition could be the reason why you sweat so much. Sometimes the drugs themselves can cause sweating as a side effect.

How can you stop excessive armpit sweating?

One approach is to determine the underlying cause and treat it appropriately. The underlying cause could be one of the following:

• Drinking too much caffeine

• Drinking too much alcohol

• Eating spicy foods

• Eating junk food

• Diabetes

• Thyroid problems

• Menopause

• High blood pressure

• Lack of exercise

• Obesity

• Lack of proper hygiene

Topical Medications

One way you can stop excessive armpit sweating is to use topical medication. Regular antiperspirants aren’t strong enough, so you need to try a clinical strength product. The main ingredient in antiperspirants is aluminum chloride. Some products have a higher percentage of this aluminum salt than others.

Try an antiperspirant with 10 – 15% aluminum chloride concentration. If it’s not enough, ask your doctor or a dermatologist for a prescription for one that contains a 20% concentration.

Botulinum Toxin Injections

Botox injections are the latest FDA-approved treatment for hyperhidrosis. Approximately twelve injections are required in order to prevent sweating. The Botox works by temporarily preventing the secretion of acetylcholine. The process by which the nerves trigger the sweat glands is hindered. The results can last for at least six months, depending on the patient.

Alternative Ways to Stop Armpit Sweating

There are a variety of alternative treatments you can try. The following are just a few ideas:

• Try losing weight. Excessive underarm sweating can be caused by excessive weight. Just having a bit of extra body fat on you will increase the amount of perspiration triggered in your body. A healthy, fit body can adjust properly to hot temperature.

• Try talcum powder. Many people swear by this remedy. Rub it under your arms before putting an antiperspirant on. It will help clog the pores which will prevent a lot of sweat from coming out.

• Try to keep yourself as cool as possible. Drink tons of cold water every day. Eat fresh fruit throughout the day. Wear loose clothing made out of soft cotton. It’s the best fabric to wear if you’re trying to prevent underarm sweating.

• Make small changes here and there to your diet. Reduce your intake of foods with a heavy smell, such as fish, garlic, onions, curry, etc…, because they can be smelled in your sweat. They make the sweat thicker and more odorous.

Create an herbal cleansing foam out of licorice root extracts. Rub the homemade foam under your arms to get rid of bacteria. Reduced bacteria will result in less sweating.

Now you have a better understanding of how to stop excessive armpit sweating! Some of these may work for you better than others. Go ahead and try some alternative treatments to see if they help before considering a more expensive treatment.
