Quick Solutions for Sweaty Feet

Most people with sweaty palms will also suffer from excessively sweaty feet. This condition can be even more embarrassing than sweaty palms because it's often accompanied with a not so pleasant foot odor. For me, any occasion where I would have to take my shoes off became a high anxiety situation.

The technical term for the condition is plantar hyperhidrosis, but if you're suffering from the disorder, you probably don't care much for the technical jargon. What you want is a quick fix and boy have I got a good one for you.

My foot sweating ruined my shoes and gave them a stink that I dare not describe. In addition, it's well documented that excessive foot sweating can bring on foot fungus and stubborn toe nail infections, both of which I was all too familiar.

I thought it was ironic that for a guy who rarely went to the gym, I had a pretty consistent case of athletes foot. The culprit of course was my damp shoes and my own personal "foot sprinklers" that created a breeding ground for bacteria. I needed help FAST.

Reducing the Bacteria on your Feet

Foot odor is caused by the toxins released by the bacteria in the sweat. Reducing the level of bacteria is really a matter of cleanliness. To control the amount of bacteria on your feet, you should:

  • wash your feet with strong anti-bacterial soap
  • wear clean socks or change socks frequently
  • avoid wearing the same shoes everyday - give a pair of shoes 24 hours or more to air out before wearing them again
  • wear well ventilated shoes to decrease sweating
  • apply antiperspirant to your feet (try Drysol)
  • use some kind of odor eliminating shoe insert (like Odor-Eaters)
  • try using foot powders like Goldbond

They would remain quiet and cordial but I knew they were just a grossed out as any normal person would be. My sweaty hands were giving me social anxiety and the social anxiety in turn increased my sweaty hands. It became a vicious cycle that I had to escape one way or another.

Tannin Tea Fights Foot Sweating

One of my favorite foot odor remedies is soaking the your sweaty feet in Tea. Tannin, which can be found in tea bags, is a drying agent. Boil three or four tea bags in 1 quart of water for about 10 minutes, then add enough cold water to make a comfortable soak.

Dip your feet in and let them soak for about 20 minutes. Don't freak out if it turns your skin a little tan from the tea. This TOTALLY works and you'll start noticing a difference after about 3 days of use.
